Family Therapy

“Didn’t I tell you not to do that?!”… “Uh huh.” “Then why did you do that?!”… “I don’t know?”

Is there a break in the way the family unit is operating?

There are a variety of scenarios that might be indications that something is ‘broken’ within the family dynamic. … a family member is angry at the world – and takes it out on anyone close. There is no interest in joining the family for fun events, let alone complete chores or participate in social family obligations. … your teenager maintains the closed-door policy; coming out to spend time with the family happens seldom, if ever. … your spouse doesn’t want to participate in family dynamics leaving you with all the responsibility of running the household, caring for the children, and handling finances.

How does family therapy work?

In family therapy, we try to get the function back into the dysfunctional family system. We get to understand the family communication disasters and learn how to handle difficult situations. One of the primary goals is addressing how to improve understanding of each other and improve the relationships through validating feelings. Another important goal is to focus on getting trust back by reestablishing expectations. I can help parents with discipline strategies and offer instruction on some more effective techniques.
